Rooted In Cottage Country.

Custom kitchens, millwork and finish carpentry for cottages and homes across Muskoka, Parry Sound and Georgian Bay.

The shop

Built with precision.

We build cabinetry and finish carpentry to order. No catalogue, no stock boxes, nothing ordered in from a factory and touched up on site.

Everything is drawn for the room it goes into, built in the shop, and installed by the same people who built it. No shortcuts, no exceptions, no detail left to chance.

We take on a small number of projects a year. That is deliberate. It is the only way the precision stays where it should be.

For builders and designers

We are used to being the last trade on a job that cannot go wrong.

01

Drawings you can hand to a client

Shop drawings and elevations before anything is cut, so the millwork package is signed off rather than assumed.

02

A schedule that holds

We give a build window we can actually hit and we tell you early if anything moves. Cabinetry is usually the item everything else waits on.

03

Clean site, clean handover

Installed, adjusted and deficiency free before we leave. Your client should be walking into a finished room, not a punch list.

About

Forty years on this shore, and a shop to go with it.

ImageDave on site, or the shop from the outside. Something personal1600 × 2000 px, portrait

Our family has had a cottage up here for the last forty years. Long before there was a shop, there were the same lakes, the same drive up on a Friday night, and the same houses going up along the water.

Shoal is a small cabinet and carpentry shop working across Muskoka, Parry Sound and Georgian Bay. We build kitchens, millwork, built ins and finish carpentry for high end homes and cottages, most of them within an hour of where we grew up spending summers.

That matters more than it sounds. We know which finishes survive a closed up cottage in February and which ones do not. We know the difference between a house that gets lived in year round and one that gets opened up in May. And we know most of the trades on these jobs already, which is usually why the install goes quietly.

The name is a Georgian Bay word. A shoal is the shallow ridge just under the surface, the thing every local knows exactly where to find. It seemed about right for a shop built on knowing the water.

How we work

Drawn for the room, built in the shop, installed by the people who built it.

Most projects start with a conversation and a set of plans, or a walk through the space if it already exists. From there we draw the millwork, agree on materials and finishes, and give you a build window.

Everything is built at our shop rather than assembled on site, so the fit and the finish are controlled. Installation is done by our own crew. If something needs adjusting a season later, we come back.
